Hi, I’m Audrey. As the owner of The Wrinkled Thistle and a Technical Editor for knitting, I’ve spent years perfecting the art of the gansey.
While I still undertake commission work, I've decided to also start teaching because I believe these traditional skills should be accessible to everyone.
I’ll be your guide, helping you navigate the challenges and celebrate the victories of your knitting journey.
Questions?
What level of knitting skills do I need?
You do not need to be an expert and have knitted for years and years, but similarly, this course is not suitable for absolute beginners. The course involves knitting an adult sized jumper/sweater, so some experience of this will be useful. It also involves a bit of maths, but don't be put off by the latter - I have a downloadable spreadsheet which will help take the pain out of this!
What knitting techniques do I need to be able to do?
swatching (sorry, this is unavoidable if you want a garment that fits!)
knitting in the round
knitting flat
picking up stitches
following a chart
