Knit Your Own Gansey

Are you ready to knit your own gansey, but don't know where to start?

Then you've come to the right place. As you probably already know, there is no single 'pattern' for a gansey. They are knit-to-fit garments and everyone's different. There is information out there to help you figure out what you need to do. Do you have the time to sift through it all and come up with your own requirements?

Basic pattern servce

This service costs £20 and has a 48 hour (Mon-Fri) turnaround time. I will require some measurement information from you and will produce a basic pattern for a gansey with 2x2 ribbed welt and cuffs, basic round ribbed neck, gussets, and ribbed cuffs.

The pattern will contain:

  • The gauge and needle size required to complete the patter in Frangipani 5 ply yarn

  • Stitch counts for the overall garment (cast on, increases, decreases, number of stitches to be picked up for neckline and sleeves, basic sleeve decreases) from your supplied measurements plus standard ease

  • Recommended lengths for each section of the garment

The pattern will NOT contain:

  • charts for your chosen motifs

  • instructions on how to make your motifs work with the number of stitches you require for your chosen sizing

  • options for different welts, necklines, shoulder straps, or cuffs

Bespoke pattern service

This service costs £60 and allows you to tailor your gansey pattern.

I will arrange a time to chat with you via email or online call (your preference), to assist you in deciding what you want from your gansey. This will include deciding on motifs, welt design, shoulders straps, necklines, extent of patterning etc, and provide detail on how to take measurements.

We will also discuss the yarn you wish to use and I will need you to provide a gauge for this yarn.

I will then produce a detailed unique pattern, including charts for your motifs.

This service also includes one 30 minute zoom call to help out if you get stuck or have questions part-way through your project (further zoom calls can be booked at additional cost).
